Bottle # 11174/15000. 2003 had an extremely hot summer, even for the “Alentejo” region. However, in my opinion, this year’s wines have aged remarkably well. This seems to me very important, because it could be an indirect sign that the “Alentejo” grape varieties (here “Aragonês” and “Alicante Bouschet”) are well adapted to the heat and prepared for the dramatic climatic changes that are coming. Good level in the bottle. The cork came out easily with the tweezers and was in good condition. So far, so good! In the glass is presented with an intense and deep garnet color, impressive for a wine with almost 15 years old. Its profile is full-bodied, strong, powerful and mature, doing justice to the region where it comes from. What impresses me the most is the pungent acidity, which balances the wine and gives it extraordinary vivacity! Behind the more muscled notes of ripe fruit, with cherry and plum, there are discrete notes of elegance, with vegetable notes (remembering black tea), wet earth and even some minerality.
