We have followed from the beginning the fantastic work of “António Maçanita” in “Pico”, especially with the white varieties (“Verdelho”, “Terrantez” and “Arinto”). Planting and recovering vineyards “is fashionable” in the Azores, and it is not only this producer who is in great hustle and bustle.
Anyway, it was a great pleasure to have made this vertical mini-test of the “Arintos” of this young and talented oenologist. “Arinto” of the Azores. That is, a caste that is different from the “Arinto” of the continent. We opened 3 bottles: 2013, 2014, 2015.
They all have in common a sui generis, fruity aroma, perhaps apple with some smoky notes. In the mouth these wines have nerve, a marked body and a lively acidity. Full bodied but fresh. Nice and persistent finish.
The 2013 had a more intense color, and a final of mouth already denoting discreet evolution. 2014 is on point! What a great white !! Alive, full-bodied, fresh, with crispy acidity! The 2015 seemed a bit less full-bodied and with a drier and less marked end … maybe it’s still early to drink it …
We strongly advise!
