Friend Zé’s house wine tasting

Now, here we are again in the House of friend Zé, for another dinner, which usually occurs with annual periodicity, in Mid-january. This time they let me take two red wines, and the third was the friend Zé who provided… this, to accompany with a appetizer of cheeses, jams and sausages, then a green salad, and finally a duck rice:

  • Country: Portugal
  • Region: Setúbal Peninsula
  • Producer: Herdade of Portocarro
  • Type: Red
  • Name: Cavalo Maluco
  • Year: 2009
  • Grapes: N/A
  • Alcoholic content: 14% Vol.

A wine that is at the point to be consumed. When it leaves for the market, it’s usually very green. It takes some time in bottle and in the cellar. Very loaded color. Hay flavor, wet straw… It’s not the stable, or horse sweat or anything… It is an aroma that is some how characteristic of this wine. In the mouth is full of body, but soft… drunk with great pleasure, and has a very nice ending… Some say this is a very masculine wine… But the truth is, all women appreciate it!!!! We had proved this before, but now we are obliged to elevate the evidence given.

2 – PINTAS 2013

  • Country: Portugal
  • Region: Douro
  • Producer: Wine & Soul
  • Type: Red
  • Name: Pintas
  • Year: 2013
  • Grapes: Old Vineyards
  • Alcoholic Content: 14.5% Vol.

Fantastic flavour to Red berries… Wonderful… But then in the mouth surprises: it is still very rough: the tannins are in the red, very intense, forcing the people to make faces… and the end also, due to too much acidity… I confess I hoped the wine would be more ready for consumption… After all, it’s been bottled up for two years… In a while it must be a great wine, but for now we can not classify better…

3 – QUINTA NOVA de Nossa Senhora do Carmo Unoaked 2015

  • Producer: Quinta Nova
  • Type: Red
  • Name: Quinta Nova Unoaked
  • Year: 2015

Scented ripe fruit Macerated. In the mouth is light, watery and therefore with little body. The ending is forgettable, just like everything else… A wine nothing special, especially considering the Price.
