Adega Casal Martins is a small and unknown producer in the Tomar area, namely in the town of Fontinha, in the territorial area of Casais. The winemaker of this house is a young woman of Romanian origin, Anca Nicoleta Poiana Martins, who together with her husband Vítor Martins, started this ambitious project that has won some prizes at national and even international level and begins to want appear in the wine scene Portuguese.

Here we analyze 4 wines that are the most representative of this project:

DONA ANCA 2015

  • Region: Regional Tejo – Sub Região de Tomar
  • Country: Portugal
  • Type: Red Wine
  • Grape Verieties: Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet
  • Year: 2015
  • Alcohol content: 14.5%
  • Price: 3.5€
  • Points: 13

Unimpressive aroma, balanced tannins, but little taste and a little astringent in the end. It ends up being a wine that, in spite of being a bit disappointing, together with the right gastronomy will certainly give some pleasure in its tasting and with a good value for money.

Anca Martins, presents this wine from the year 2016 (better than the 2015) gastronomic and very pleasant and especially at a great price.

Good label choice, elegant and attractive. Intense nose with peppers, characteristic of the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal, in a very expressive set, also in the mouth, with ripe red fruit, elegant tannins, tasty and some final persistence. If the harvest of 2015 disillusioned a little, this one of 2016, is in the memory and I have the desire to taste it again, such the pleasure that gave us at the table.

The top of the range reveals a wine with a more complex aroma, not so exuberant, but quality fruit, some chocolate, in the mouth, round, some body and tasty, finishing fresh and good end of mouth. Being ready to drink, we are curious about its aging bottle. Pay attention to the next crops.

FINAL NOTES:

  1. All the wines revealed quality, tasting pleasure and mainly identity, clearly exceeding expectations, given the complete ignorance
  2. Excellent price relation, being clearly ahead in the quality of many wines more known in their price range
  3. The wines of Tomar have surprised us in all the occasions when we could taste them and those of this house did not escape the rule, reason why we have to pay attention to its the evolution and to the work of this young but innovative winemaker, that prompts great success
