“Évora” is a city of good restaurants. This is a consensual statement. “Piparoza“, right at the foot of the “Giraldo”, is distinguished from others because it is a very wine-oriented restaurant. The owner and employees know a lot about nectars. So do not hesitate to ask for a suggestion, to clarify a doubt … And allied to this we have good food! And good snacks !!! … And the final price does not burn much in the wallet. Well, this is an ideal place for a wine4people meeting.

ERRO B (Quinta do Mouro) 2015

. Region: Alentejo
. Type: White Wine
. Producer: Quinta do Mouro
. Grape Varieties: Arinto and others
. Alcohol Content: 12% vol.
. Price: 19 euros
Only “Miguel Louro” can explain the origin of this wine. In fact, it was with some controversy that these 4 wines (1 white and 3 red) came from “Quinta do Mouro” with the label in reverse. According to “Miguel Louro”, a mistake is an opportunity to do something different. And we know (and admire) the irreverence and the search for new ways by this producer. This wine seems to have been in the tanning for the first 48 hours … For some unexpected reason, it ended up being in tanning until the end of the fermentation … In this way the risk of becoming a heavy and potentially inedible wine … We know that “Miguel Louro” joined him later “Arinto” (a grape variety that adds freshness, acidity and liveliness to the wines, and for that purpose is widely used in the “Alentejo”) … But we do not know more details … So let’s turn to the brief description of the nectar: Pale yellow color, aroma denoting some evolution / oxidation, which is not confirmed in the mouth: It’s a young wine, vigorous, fresh, very little fruity but with a fantastic acidity. Very easy and very enjoyable to drink. Even our M.B (who is not a big fan of whites) really liked it! He followed well the appetizers. Come more “mistakes” like these!

Gouvyas 2007

. Region: Douro
. Type: Red Wine
. Producer: Bago de Touriga
. Grape Varieties: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional
. Alcohol Content: 14% vol.
. Price: 19,90 euros
The wines of “Luis Duarte” are usually very pleasant, and this does not escape the rule. To begin with, we would never say in blind proof that it would be a 2007 wine. It looks clearly younger. It is not an intense wine, nor is it very full-bodied … rather it is an elegant, fruity wine that is tasty, with a reasonable finish, and accompanies well practically all kinds of food (meat or fish). We think that the wine is at its peak, asking to be drunk.

Gouvyas Tinta Francisca 2015

. Region: Douro
. Type: Red Wine
. Producer: Bago de Touriga
. Grape Varieties: Tinta Francisca
. Alcohol Content: 12,5% vol.
. Price: 15 euros
Here is a wine totally different from the previous one: an explosion of fruit !!! Fruit very intense in the aroma and in the mouth. A young and tasty wine, intense although not very full, surely much to the taste of the female audience. It’s not the kind of wine for M.B. but he ended up liking …

Esporão Private Selection 2005

. Region: Alentejo
. Type: Red Wine
. Producer: Esporão S.A.
. Grape Varieties: Alicante Bouschet, Aragonês entre outras
. Alcohol Content: 14,5% vol.
. Price: 48 euros
Here we had bad luck. This bottle was the one we took to the restaurant, and the wine was already in the descending phase … It was not supposed to, but every bottle is a bottle, and this was it. But in spite of everything, it still gave some pleasure to drink. The aroma and the color denoted evolution. In the mouth it was already reasonably licorous and with little body, but ended up accompanying well our main dish (that we advise): a beautiful oxtail !!!
