Quinta de Soalheiro, located in Melgaço (the northernmost point of Portugal), is protected by a series of mountains that create the conditions of rainfall, temperature and hours of sunshine necessary for better ripening of the Alvarinho grapes. The very particular microclimate of this a region allied to an excellent solar exposition led to João António Cerdeira planting the first continuous vineyard of Alvarinho in 1974 and creating, in 1982, the first brand of Alvarinho de Melgaço – Soalheiro.
