It was my friend Pedro Queiroga, who is currently in the distribution but has already been responsible for the production of (excellent) wines in the past, which drew my attention to this sparkling wine from “Cartuxa”. In good time.
The winemaker of the Foundation, Pedro Batista, has been accompanying the “Tapada do Chaves” vineyards in “Portalegre” for some years, helping with his “Knowing from experience” of the Alentejo vineyards his colleagues from “Murganheira”, the company that owned “Tapada”. What is the counterpart? “Murganheira”, renowned for its excellent sparkling wines, has contributed its savoir faire to the production of quality sparkling wines at “Adega Cartuxa”, “Alentejo”. Makes sense… (This process had a recent important development, with the purchase of “Tapada” by the Foundation, with Pedro Batista taking over the helm of the project).
This excellent wine certainly benefited from this partnership. Made with 100% of “Arinto”, it is a sparkling wine of classic profile, with the notes of yeast and biscuit of cookie demanding the taste, above the citric notes of “Arinto”. The body is delicate, elegant and mineral, not being particularly intense, complex or long in terms of end-of-mouth. One of the things I most appreciate about it, and that I rarely encounter in sparkling Portuguese, is his bubble, lively but at the same time delicate and fine, as if we received provocative pinpricks on tongue.
